MAC address filtration is necessary, because it adds another important layer of almost unbreakable security to your wireless network. MAC address filtration is usually overlooked by most computer professionals.
If you don't know how to locate your MAC address, click HERE.
To open the MAC address filtration window, follow these steps...
- Open your web browser. In this case, I'll be using firefox, but you can use any browser you choose.
- In your address bar, type the default IP address for your Linksys wireless router. 192.168.1.1

- You will be prompted for a password...
- If you are not using a Linksys router with DD-WRT installed, the user name is left blank, and the default password is "admin" without the quotes. If this doesn't work, your password has been changed, and resetting the router is the only option.
- If you are using a Linksys router with DD-WRT installed, this information will have been setup, already. If you've lost it, there is no way to retrieve it without resetting the router.

- Once you are in your router, from the main menu, choose Wireless. (Step1)

- Once in the Wireless tab, choose MAC filter. (Step2)
- Once on the MAC filter screen, if use filter is checked, proceed to step 7. If not, you don't have MAC address filtration turned on, and you can stop reading.
- Click on the Edit MAC Filter List button. (Step3)
- Once in the MAC Address Filter Window, type in the MAC address, as shown in the example area.

- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Apply Settings.
